Washington, D.C.-born bassist, composer, and bandleader Ben Williams is one of the most acclaimed and versatile voices in modern jazz. A 2009 winner of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, Williams has performed and recorded with Pat Metheny, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis, Robert Glasper, Lauryn Hill, Maxwell, and David Sanborn. A two-time DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star, he has released several acclaimed albums as a leader, including State of Art and Coming of Age, and expanded his sound with I AM A MAN, blending modern jazz with R&B, hip-hop, and soul. Through his work as both a bassist and composer, Williams continues to push the boundaries of contemporary jazz while drawing from the rich musical traditions of his hometown.
